Why a separate maintenance price list
The discount price list answers the question most people arrive with: what does the first month cost. Maintenance is a different question. Once you have reached your goal, the pharmacy you use for the next year needs to do two things at once: keep prescribing when your BMI has fallen below the licence entry thresholds, and charge a sustainable monthly price at the dose you settle on. Plenty of providers do one and not the other. This list only includes pharmacies that have confirmed to us, in writing, that they continue prescribing for maintenance, and it ranks them on the delivered price at every dose so you can see the long-term cost rather than a first-order headline.
What the maintenance pharmacies offer
- A stated maintenance BMI. Each has told us the lowest BMI at which it will continue you, from 19 to 22.5 across the list. The figures are on the maintenance pharmacy directory beside each card.
- No time limit. None has told us it caps treatment at a fixed duration. The two-year figure people quote is an NHS funding rule, not a licence condition, and it does not bind a private prescriber.
- Step-down and taper support. Most will reduce you one step at a time on the six-step ladder and hold you at the lowest dose that keeps weight and appetite steady.
- Switching with evidence. If your current provider stops, these pharmacies accept patients moving over with a treatment summary, usually at the same BMI as their maintenance threshold.
How to read the table
The Maintenance pill is selected by default. Pick the dose you expect to settle at rather than the 0.8mg starter, since price rises with the dose and the cheapest starter pharmacy is rarely the cheapest at 9mg or 14.5mg. Every figure is the total you pay at checkout with delivery included, so a pharmacy with a higher tablet price and free delivery can still come out ahead. Before you rely on a price
A maintenance price is only useful from a pharmacy that will actually keep prescribing to you, so check the pharmacy’s BMI policy on the directory and ask for it in writing before you pay. Questions people ask
What is a Foundayo maintenance dose? The lowest daily dose that holds your weight and appetite steady once you have reached your goal. There is no single maintenance dose in the licence; prescribers usually step down one strength at a time and stop at the lowest that still works.
Do maintenance friendly pharmacies charge more? Not as a rule. Several of the cheapest pharmacies on the discount price list are also on this one, and the table sorts them by price so you can check for your dose.
Can a pharmacy stop my prescription at a certain BMI? A private pharmacy can set its own policy, but it should state it before you pay, and each supply must still be an individual clinical decision under GPhC guidance. The pharmacies on this page have stated their maintenance BMI to us in advance.
