Foundayo Subscription Plans: Why We Do Not Advise Long Term Commitments

Pharmacies increasingly sell Foundayo on 3, 6 and 12 month plans. The pitch is a locked price and continuity of care. Read the terms and most of the benefit sits with the pharmacy, not with you. Here is what a fixed term plan really buys, and what you give up.

What a Foundayo subscription plan actually is

We do not advise long term commitments. A Foundayo subscription plan is an agreement to buy from one pharmacy for a set number of months, usually 3, 6 or 12. You are sold certainty. In return you give up the ability to move when a cheaper price appears, and leaving early normally costs you a notice period, a clawback of the welcome discount, or both.

Two different things get called a subscription, and the difference matters.

TypeWhat you agree toLeaving
Rolling monthlyBilled each month, repeat supply arranged automaticallyCancel before the next billing date
Fixed term, 3 to 12 monthsCommitted for the whole term at a set priceNotice period, discount clawback, or both

A rolling plan is convenience. A fixed term plan is a contract. The pages selling them rarely draw that line clearly, so check which one you are being offered before you enter card details.

The prices are higher, often a lot higher

The main claim behind a fixed term plan is value. Put the numbers side by side and the claim usually fails.

01

The monthly figure is not the cheapest monthly figure

A plan is priced against that pharmacy’s own standard rate, not against the market. Compare the plan price to the cheapest price on the Dayo price list and the gap is often large.

02

You pay the full term, not the best months

Prices move. Over 6 or 12 months the cheapest pharmacy changes more than once. A fixed term stops you taking any of those savings.

03

Your strength changes underneath the price

Foundayo comes in six strengths and you step up after at least 30 days at each one. A plan agreed around your current strength can look poor later on.

04

The welcome discount hides the real rate

Many plans lead with a low first month. Work out the total across the whole term and divide by the number of months. That figure is the one to compare.

Who the benefit actually sits with

Ask what each side gets from a 12 month commitment.

Certainty has value, and a pharmacy is entitled to sell it. The question is who pays for it. On most plans we have looked at, you do.

The continuity of care argument does not hold

The strongest sounding reason to sign up is clinical. Stay with one pharmacy, the argument goes, and your care is joined up: the same prescriber, your full dose history, no repeated assessments.

You already have that, for free

Nothing stops you ordering from the same pharmacy every month without a contract. You keep the same record, the same prescriber and the same history by choosing to reorder. Continuity comes from staying, not from signing.

A contract does not improve your clinical care. It removes your option to leave. Those are different things, and only one of them is in your interest.

The test is simple. Ask whether the pharmacy would still give you the same clinical service on a month to month basis. If the answer is yes, and it nearly always is, then the contract is about commercial certainty rather than care. If you do want to stay put, our guide to switching Foundayo pharmacy explains how your dose history travels with you anyway.

If you still want a plan, check these first

Some people value the simplicity, and a plan is sometimes the only way to reach a particular price. Go in with your eyes open.

01

The full term cost

Add up every payment across the term. Compare the total against the cheapest monthly price for the same number of months.

02

What happens when your strength rises

Ask in writing whether the price holds at a higher strength, or whether the plan reprices. Many do reprice.

03

The exit terms

Find the notice period and the clawback clause before you pay, not after.

04

What happens if you stop treatment

Ask what you owe if a prescriber pauses or stops your treatment partway through the term.

Foundayo subscription questions

Are Foundayo subscription plans worth it?

We do not advise long term commitments. Fixed 3, 6 and 12 month plans usually cost more than ordering month to month at the cheapest pharmacy, and the certainty they buy goes mostly to the pharmacy rather than to you.

Do I need a subscription to keep the same pharmacy?

No. You can order from the same pharmacy every month for as long as you like without signing anything. Continuity comes from choosing to reorder, not from a contract.

What is the difference between a rolling plan and a fixed term plan?

A rolling monthly plan bills each month and you can stop at any point. A fixed term plan commits you for 3, 6 or 12 months, and leaving early usually means a notice period, a clawback of the welcome discount, or both.

Can I cancel a Foundayo subscription?

A rolling plan can be cancelled before the next billing date. A fixed term plan depends on the contract. Read the exit terms before you pay, and cancel only once your next pack has been dispatched.

Why are fixed term plans priced higher?

Longer plans are often priced around a single strength and held while your strength rises, so the headline monthly figure can sit above the cheapest month to month price elsewhere. Compare the full term cost against the live price list before committing.
