Trial figures are averages from separate placebo-controlled trials with different people, lengths and doses. They do not rank one medicine above another. Your prescriber will advise on the right choice for you.
GLP-1 medicines copy a gut hormone released after eating. The hormone slows the stomach and tells the brain you are full. Injections such as Mounjaro and Wegovy were the first to reach the market. Tablets arrived in the UK in 2026.
Orforglipron is a small molecule, not a protein. Stomach acid leaves the molecule intact, so the tablet works without a fasting routine.
Oral semaglutide is the same protein as the Wegovy injection, paired with an absorption enhancer. Food blocks absorption, so the tablet needs an empty stomach.

No trial has put the two tablets head to head. Each was tested against a placebo:
The trials differ in size, length and the people enrolled, so the figures do not rank the tablets. The most common side effects for both are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation and vomiting, mostly in the first weeks of each dose step. See Foundayo vs Wegovy pill for more.
Neither tablet is on the NHS yet. NICE is appraising Foundayo under reference ID6516, with guidance expected in November 2026. The Wegovy pill awaits its own NICE review. Dayo shows the live delivered price for every Foundayo dose, and Ogovy shows the same for the Wegovy pill. The starting dose is the cheapest for both, and the price rises at each step.
In separate trials, the injections produced larger average weight loss. The Wegovy pill at 25mg came close to the Wegovy injection. Your prescriber will help you weigh results against routine and price.
